The International Baccalaureate Diploma Program, with English as the language of instruction, is a demanding two-year pre-university course for highly-motivated students aged 16-18. The curriculum, with its emphasis on critical thinking, equips the 10th and 11th graders with the skills and attitudes necessary for their future success in the higher education.
European Gymnasium has been implementing the IB Diploma Program since 2004, offering it alongside the Russian national curriculum.
Each student is required to study six academic subjects concurrently, choosing one subject from each of the following groups: Studies in Language and Literature, Language Acquisition, Individuals and Societies, Experimental Sciences, Mathematics, the Arts (or electives from Groups 1 to 5). In addition, students have to complete a course in Theory of Knowledge, the Extended Essay and the Creativity, Action, Service program (CAS).
Historically, the IB Diploma Program was designed to establish a common curriculum and university entry credential for geographically mobile students. Today, IB Diplomas are recognized at hundreds of universities around the world.
